Muttrah corniche food walk: where locals actually eat

Muttrah is Muscat’s oldest trading quarter — and still one of the best places to eat without a reservation.

Start at the souq entrance

Walk the covered alleys before sunset, then head to the corniche as the heat drops. Grab fresh juice from a stall near the gate before you dive into savoury stops.

• Meshkak (grilled meat skewers) from harbour vendors
• Fresh catch restaurants facing the water
• Omani halwa and coffee from souq shops — great gifts if you pack carefully

Evening pacing

Allocate 2–3 hours for a relaxed walk. In Traviar, tag stops as “food” activities so your map clusters them near parking or your hotel transfer point.

Respect the neighbourhood

Muttrah is residential as well as tourist-facing. Dress modestly in the souq, ask before photographing vendors, and carry cash for smaller stalls.
